All LIt Up

All Lit Up. This was taken just east of Fort Collins CO at Timnath Reservoir. In the winter months of Colorado, the sunrises are most spectular and this one was really enjoyable. You can see the reservior was mostly frozen and the ice ridges are on the edge of the lake. I was the only one at the reservoir that morning so i was able to see a beautiful, peaceful, colorful sunrise all by myself.

Geyser Sunrise

i went out to shoot early morning in Yellowstone, i was driving by the West Thumb Geyser Basin. The color of the sunrise just started to hit the clouds. The cloud cover along with the still waters in the lake and a geyser just in front of the lake provide a beautiful reason to watch the sunrise. Even though i didn't make it to Lamer Valley that morning, it was worth it.

Rainbow Falls at Yellowstone

In the morning at the Upper Falls of the Yellowstone River, a rainbow can be seen from the water mist coming off the falls and the sun behind. A beautiful early August morning allowed me to capture this rainbow and you can see a hint of a second rainbow as well. Well worth the effort to get up and get there. Wild Harebell

Wild Harebell. During the 2011 Bike Ride from Banff to Jackson in end of July and early August, the wildflowers were out in full bloom. There were many varieties and the Harebell was one of the most visible of all of them. Many were blue in color this one was slightly different.

Lining Up

The Sand Hill Migration thru central Nebraska is an Amazing event. Hundreds of thousands of sand hill cranes converge near Rowe Sanctuary close to Kearny Nebraska In the evening the cranes come to the Platte River. I was in a photo blind and was blessed by have the clouds part and a beautiful sunset happened.

Light on the Golden Aspen

Golden Aspen Near Maroon Bells. More fall colors in Colorado. This grow of aspen trees was near Maroon Bells Park outside of Aspen. It was an mostly cloudy day and i was lucky to get the sun to come out of the clouds and hit this little area and lit it up. In Colorado, the Apsen trees paint the side of the mountains in a golden yellow during the fall. A beautiful time of the year.

Sunwheel Tabletops. Boise ID home of the wild freeriders. Photoshoped this sequence shot of a mountain bike rider catching some air over the sun. These guys were flying off jumps, catching air and making it look easy. Then i had the good fortune of a sunset that was enhanced due to a fire in the area. All good -- all i had to do was sit there and press the shutter. Jim did all the work.

Thank you Colorado. The Columbine is the official state flower of Colorado. As i was wandering through the state, there were lots of places where you could see wild Columbine in the mountain meadows. I took this one near a mountain lake in a field full of them. You can see are more comumbines to follow after this one is done.

Jump Start

Caught this Egret NE of Jacksonville Florida near the Big Talbot Island State Park. There were a flock in the low lands and i was able to catch this bird just starting its flight.

RMNP Salad Bull. This photo was taken in Rocky Mountain National Park during the elk rut. The male Elk bugles to attract females. This elk had dropped grass off his antlers on to his head.

Bugle. During the mating season (or Rut), the male elk, the bull, bugles. This is attract females but more importantly to keep other bulls away from his herd of cows. This was taken in Rocky Mountain National Park - RMNP before the sunrise. Shortly before this was taken, this Bull went after another Bull and sparred with him.

Lone Tree Moon Dance

Lone Tree Moon Dance. This was taken just outside of Fort Collins CO in Fossil Creek Reservoir. There is a lone tree in the middle of a field that can be shot in a variety of seasons. This was a full moon rising just around sunset. The Rocky Mountains are to my back. I always find it difficult to capture a full moon but after a number of tries i was able to keep this one.

Coloring the Lone Tree Sunrise Fossil Creek Reservior near Fort Collins, Colorado. This lone tree is a favorite of mine. The sunrise was a very colorful event this morning. The color spread all the way to the mountain foothills west of me.

Garden of the Gods Moon

Garden of the Gods Moon. I was in Colorado Springs and drove up for sunrise photos at the Garden of the Gods. The full moon was setting at the time of the sunrise. Getting the shot between the rocks took a lot of moving around and a lot of photos. Amazing how quickly the moon moves.

Colorful Ponte Vecchio

Colorful Ponte Vecchio. I was on a trip in Italy at the time of the year where the sunset straight down the Arno River. Many people wanted to see the sunset from the old bridge in Florence but i wanted to photo the bridge so i went to the one closest. The sunset was behind me in this photo but the colors were magical this night. you can see the color in the clouds from the reflection from the river. it was a very colorful night.

the Elk Rut in RMNP is one exciting to see. This Elk Bull is bugling with the Elk Does around.

Springtime view of Mt Fletcher

A hike up Mayflower Gulch and you see an old mining settlement with a beatiful view of Mt Fletcher and the surrounding mountains. This was taken in the remains of one of the abondoned buildings at the site with a beautiful view of Mt Fletcher.

Box Canyon Sunset

Ouray, Colorado is a town that is almost surrounded by mountains. This photo is overlooking Ouray, Colorado at sunset and looking towards the way out of the box canyon. Ouray is in the San Juan mountains of Colorado and is a beautiful town in a beautiful setting. This is a great destination to visit om Colorado.

The set of lone trees in the Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area is the setting for the late November sunrise. This time of year is the most colorful sunrises in Colorado

Red River Valley Storm

I was in the beautiful Red River Valley just outside of Grafton, ND. There was a big beautiful cloud that blocked the sunset but created some nice looks. I decided to go a little bit crazy and use HDR to get the full impact of the clouds, the green crops, the sun's rays and the wet fields.

Old Barn Sunrise

Another beautiful December sunrise in Colorado. This is an old barn part of a small farm on the outskirts of Fort Collins. The City is moving in and around the old farm. I wanted to capture this before it "Reduced to parking spaces" (stolen from The Pretenders My City Was Gone).

Bull Elk and Longs Peak

This photo was taken on top of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was just before the start of the Elk Rut. There were three bull Elk bedded down on the ridge. This one was the biggest and just seemed to want his photo taken. The large mountain on the left is Longs Peak, the tallest mountain (over 14K feet) in RMNP.

My favorite lone tree has died and some of the branches are starting to break away after wet snow storms. Today's sunrise was without clouds so i used a 100-400 zoom lens to only capture the tree in the orange shade of the sky just before the sun comes up.
