This elk was without a harem of Elk Cows this morning. It sounded like he wanted to get back into the game. I was very close to this Bull Elk in RMNP when i took this photo. He was close to a road within the Park and there were more people coming around. He slowly moved into the meadow of Moraine
This photo was taken in RMNP during the Elk Rut in September. The Male Elk use their antlers to rake and dig out an area to create an Elk wallow. The grass that gets caught on the antlers then falls to the head of the elk after he raises his head. This is called the Elk Salad.
RMNP Salad Bull. This photo was taken in Rocky Mountain National Park during the elk rut. The male Elk bugles to attract females. This elk had dropped grass off his antlers on to his head.
