The Starting Line

The Starting Line. The Great Egret, a big beatiful white bird, was skipping along the water of the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. This area had a number of birds. I liked how the sun was shining on the wings and you can see the bird splashing up water as he is moving along.

Sitting At the Dock of the Bay

This photo was taken at Little Talbot ISland State Park on a dock overlooking a swamp. He was very content watching me trying to get closer for a shot.

Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, I was not getting out much to take #photos. There was a little friend stop that by and begged me to take its #photograph. Sitting on my flower holder buffing up its #feathers. I believe it is a #barnswallow. Who knew it was so colorful.

Yellowstone Osprey - Eyeing His Prey

I was just outside of Gardiner. MT when we spotted an Osprey in a tree overlooking the Yellowstone River just outside of Yellowstone National Park. I took a number of photos of the Osprey watching the water when he suddenly turned and looked at me. I quickly snapped the photo and then we returned back to watching the river. unfortunately he did no fishing that evening.

Peek-A-Boo

These Cute Great Horned Owl chicks were captured in their nest about 20 feet off the ground in a tree. The mother had left the nest and these two decided to watch me to see what i was doing. The 2nd chick had to try and look around the tree limb to get a glance.

They are sitting in a tree about 20 feet from the ground looking at people that pass by. Very cool to watch them get older

I was back at the Great Horned Owlet nest taking photos. After a short while, one of the owlets decided to let me know he didn't like my moving around. There were two owlets in the nest and were too big for the mother to be there except to feed. The other owlet is behind the limb to the right of the image. After i remained silent and stationary, they calmed down and let me take more photos.

I was in the swaps near jacksonville, FL when i saw a couple of White Egrets in shallow waters wading for food. After posing to let me get nice reflection photos they one by one few off and i was able to capture this one just after starting the flight.

Caught this Egret NE of Jacksonville Florida near the Big Talbot Island State Park. There were a flock in the low lands and i was able to catch this bird just starting its flight.

Looking For An Empty Seat

The Sand Hill Crane Migration thru central Nebraska is estimated to have 650k cranes. These Sand hill cranes converge on the Platte River near Kearney, Nebraska using the meadows and farmland to gain the energy for their long trip North for the summer. They rest at night around the Platte River for proection from predators. Watching thousands of birds fly around the river at sunset is the highlight of the day. This photo was taken at Rowe Sanctuary of a crane landing on a sand bar in the Platte River. You can make out other cranes on the sand bar and in the air. Very fun to watch.

Dancing Fool

Dancing Fool. The Sandhill Crane migration thru Kearney Nebraska happens over a short window in the spring. These are beautiful birds that are slightly over 3 feet in height and about 5-7 feet in wing span. They have a bright red top which is a factor of " behavioral stimulation". There are many thousands of birds that go out to the fields during the day and spend the evenings at the Platte River. They "dance" as part of their mating efforts and it looks like they are really enjoying themselves

Attack!

Attack! This is a photo of the female broad-tailed hummingbird. The most obvious feature is the male's throat is red or burgundy and the female is not. I was lucky to capture this bird looking down with her feet partially extended. They move so fast it is difficult to focus on them and to shoot them before they move out of the frame. This was taken at a friends house near Fort Collins, CO with a nice set up including feeders and flash

Hummmmmm. This photo is of a male Broad-tailed hummingbird. I was lucky enough to be included in a photo shoot of these hummingbirds. My friends had a nice set up where the hummingbirds congregated that included flash units. these birds are amazing to watch fly around and hover like they do. A very nice way to spend a morning
