Wild Blue Flax early morning Dew

The Wild Blue Fax is native to Colorado and i have photographed them on the front range all the way to over 10000 feet in the mountains. The open in the morning when the sun comes out. I took this just after sunrise. you can see a few of the flowers in the cluster are going to blossom this day. Also if you look closely you can see some early morning dew on the petals.

Colorado Red Columbine

The Colorado state flower is the columbine. Thi is the red columbine which is a little different but beautiful wildflower.

A beautiful #Colorado day for taking #photograph of #wildflowers. This is a #redcolumbine, a member of the #columbine family which is the state flower. I don’t see red columbines that often. Really enjoying finding them.

Red Columbine

The red columbine wildflower in Colorado.

Blue Flax

Blue Flax wildflower. This was taken at Cathy Fromme Prairie. This blue flower was everywhere in the open space adding lots of color. The prominence of the wildflowers is likely due to the late spring snow and rain.

Orchid Beardstongue

Orchid Beardstongue Wildflower. This was taken in the Cathy Fromme Natural Open Space in Fort Collins Colorado. LIkely due to the late spring moisture (snow and rain) the wildflowers in the open space are very colorful this year.

The Wildflower Season

The Wildflower Season Continues -- Orchid Beardstongue Wildflower. One of the cool parts about wildflowers in Colorado is the season lasts a long time. On the plains it starts in May and in the Mountains the peak is early July. This is the taken at the Cathy Fromme Natural Prairie in Fort Collins, CO

Sheeley Lupine. This field of flowers was close to the campsite where we stayed, Sheeley Lake. Montana. It was in an area surrounded by tall pine trees and received a lot of shade with mostly streaks of light.

Wild Harebell

Wild Harebell. During the 2011 Bike Ride from Banff to Jackson in end of July and early August, the wildflowers were out in full bloom. There were many varieties and the Harebell was one of the most visible of all of them. Many were blue in color this one was slightly different.

Colorado State Flower

Thank you Colorado. The Columbine is the official state flower of Colorado. As i was wandering through the state, there were lots of places where you could see wild Columbine in the mountain meadows. I took this one near a mountain lake in a field full of them. You can see are more comumbines to follow after this one is done.
