Orchid Beardstongue

Orchid Beardstongue Wildflower. This was taken in the Cathy Fromme Natural Open Space in Fort Collins Colorado. LIkely due to the late spring moisture (snow and rain) the wildflowers in the open space are very colorful this year.

The Wildflower Season

The Wildflower Season Continues -- Orchid Beardstongue Wildflower. One of the cool parts about wildflowers in Colorado is the season lasts a long time. On the plains it starts in May and in the Mountains the peak is early July. This is the taken at the Cathy Fromme Natural Prairie in Fort Collins, CO

Wild Harebell

Wild Harebell. During the 2011 Bike Ride from Banff to Jackson in end of July and early August, the wildflowers were out in full bloom. There were many varieties and the Harebell was one of the most visible of all of them. Many were blue in color this one was slightly different.

Columbine Blooms

Thank you Colorado. The Columbine is the official state flower of Colorado. As i was wandering through the state, there were lots of places where you could see wild Columbine in the mountain meadows. I took this one near a mountain lake in a field full of them. You can see are more comumbines to follow after this one is done.

Shooting Star Wildflower

when i see a wildflower i usually try and take a photo. This wildflower was in the Slough Creek section of Yellowstone National Park. It was late May and just bloomed. The snow recently melted and the wildflowers were not in full bloom. I've seen it called a Darkthroat Shooting Star -or- Few-flower shooting star -or- Western Shooting Star (Dodecatheon pulchellum)

Red Columbine with Morning Dew

I know there is a patch near Cataract Lake with the red columbine. i don't find this wildflower very often and the blooming period is very short.

Flight of the Bumble Bee. I was in RMNP trying to capture the elusive wildflower, mountain, blue sky photo. I was in this patch of Rocky Mountain Loco Weed wildflowers when i was buzzed by a bumble bee. This was a big bee. I followed him around which wasn't easy and captured a number of photos. Getting the bee in focus was difficult as he was flying around.

Bluebells at Yankee Boy Basin

The wildflowers in Yankee Boy Basin near Red Mountain Pass are fantastic. I am always interested in capturing a bluebell wildflower photo.
