Dark Hallow Falls in Shenandoah National Park

Shenandoah Sunset

Jenkins Gap Sunrise

Got into #shenandoahnationalpark early and was lucky to be present for wonderful #sunrise with the foothills into the blue ridge mountains. The #sky was a bright, beatiful red with lots of orange and blue.

Harpers Ferry, WV is a beautiful place. This photo is of the town of Harpers Ferry at #bluehour with the lights of the town and of a train traveling across the railroad bridge over Potomac River. Hiked on the Maryland Heights trail to get to the overlook before sunrise.

Grand Canyon at Yavapai Point

A panorama of the Grand Canyon taken at Yavapai Point. The photo was taken minutes before the sun rose. The Colorado River is barely visible in the lowest part of the canyon near the middle of the photo. The colors of the buttes came out nicely before the sun rose and it provided more dimentional view.

Inside the Double Arch

Inside the double arch. Early morning at Arches National Park was a cloudy day. As I got to this arch the clouds overhead started to clear. I decided to take a set of photos inside the arch. You can see the clouds over the arch on the left and the clearing on top of the photo. Delicate Arch Bursting Out

Delicate Arch. The Delicate Arch is the most jaw-dropping arch in Arches National Park. It does take a 3m roundtrip hike to get close and in January the last 200 yards can be icy and slippery, but it is worth the hike. This photo was taken after the sunset. The La Sal Mountains are behind the delicate arch. Most every other month there are lots of others watching the sunset but this cool day in January there were very few allowing photos to be taken without anyone around… See more

Delicate Arch Sunburst.

I spent some quality time at Delicate Arch in Arches National Park near #Moab #Utah recently and wanted to capture the sun shining through the arch at Delicate Arch. It was a chilly evening with a little wind and very few clouds. This is a landscape version of the shot which i like because it also shows some of the rocks around the arch. #delicatearch #archesnationalpark #landscapephotography #sunburst

El Capitan Reflection

A reflection of the BIG granite Rock called El Capitan in early morning sunlight. El Capitan rises nearly 3,600 feet above the valley floor (7,569 feet above sea level) and the Merced River flows thru the Yosemite Valley. The river flow is slow in September and provides opportunities to get a nice refection image. It had been a raining and overcast few days and when the sun came out, i wanted to get El Capitan in the reflection of the Merced River. The rainfall made the green pop as well.

Fog Ring

A foggy morning in Yosemite Valley after a rainy evening.and a threat of rain throughout the day. This is one of the photographs taken in a timelapse video of the fog rolling in the valley. I liked how the fog hugged El Capitan and formed a ring round it. The sun had just came over the Cathedral Rocks which highlighted the fog on the other side of the valley.

I took the photo in El Capitan meadow where people stop to see rock climbers go straight up. The wall that is lit up with the rising sun is appropriately called the Dawn Wall. It is the hardest part of the rock to climb (see “The Dawn Wall” documentary). There was a nice layer of fog at the base of El Capitan that morning.

Orange Waterfall

This is reflection of El Capitan, Sentinel Rock, Cathedral Rocks and Bridalveil Falls in the Merced River. It was taken near sunset in September. the waterfall flow is low but the angle of the sun shines on the waterfall making it an orange color along with the surrounding rocks.

Yosemite Valley Color Before the Sunrise

One of the more popular places to see the Yosemite Valley is at the Tunnel View. You can see El Capitan, Half Dome and Bridalveil Falls while looking down into the valley. I got up to see the sunrise and one of the first photos I took was the orange glow of the horizon before the sun rose. The longer exposure with my neutral density filter gave the sky a nice glow giving a nice background for the Half Dome silhouette and allowed a little light to hit El Capitan. It had been raining and overcast for few days so it was nice to get a clear morning for this image.
