Good Morning Fort Collins

One of my favorite spots for sunrise photos in Fort Collins is the Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area. it is a large open space that allows sunset photos with little view of development. Colorado has beautiful sunrises in the winter months and this day in December is a typical sunset with a very colorful blue and orange.

Fall Sunset on the Poudre River

The Poudre River runs from the Eastern edge of the continental divide through Fort Collins and merges with the North Platte River on its way to the Gulf. The tree colors for 2022 were peak due to a later frost and no major weather changes. I have taken photos on the Poudre during fall at sunrise but went there this year to capture at sunset. I was able to get a sunburst just before going down. The Poudre in October is low but was able to get some reflection.

The Fall Sunburst at Cathy Fromme

Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area in Fort Collins, CO has a small cluster of trees that I love to photography. This year's fall colors were beautiful. I liked the sunburst effect with my Canon lens and the used the shadows of the trees as leading lines into the image. This group of trees have been in other images of sunrise photos in winter without leaves.

Blown Away Sunset

This photo was taken on the back end of dusk. The sun had set and there wasn't a clould in the sku. The orange over the foothills was nice to see. i liked how Horsetooth Reservoir was white with a dusting of snow and ice. The tree grew in this position. Made for nice balance with the orange relfection on the other side of the image.

Rays of Fire

This photo is of Horsetooth Reservior taken during the High Park Fire at sunset. I liked how the smoke of the fire fanned out the sunlight and created interesting rays of light and shadows. The boat on the water provided balance and scale

The Poudre River runs thru Fort Collins, CO. This year was a good year for fall colors in the trees and adding sunrise colors made this a special morning.

The Poudre is a very popular fly fishing location in Colorado. we both got to the River before the sunrise. A Super, Blue, Blood Moon on Jan 31, 2018 was the first time this happened in over 150 years in the Western Hemisphere. The Super Moon is when the Full Moon is in the closest to the earth part of the orbit. The Blue Moon is when ther eis a full moon twice in one month. The Blood Moon is the color of the moon (reddish, copper) that happens when there is a total Lunar E\clipse. This was taking in Fort Collins, Colorado with the Horsetooth Rock as the stone the moon is setting behind.

Horsetooth Summer Storm

During the summer, we see a number of lightning storms come from the front range foothills and out on the Colorado plains. In Fort Collins, this typically means it starts near horsetooth rock and reseervior. This night i captured a number of lightning sticks but it was unusual since the storm was heading south instead of east.
